The founders of Ascent have been leaders in the field of outpatient surgery and facility management for over 20 years.
Bob Baratta, MD, Chairman and CEO. Dr. Baratta founded the single specialty Surgery Center of Stuart in 1984 and continues to lead it as a highly profitable multi-specialty center. He practiced ophthalmology in Stuart for 28 years prior to entering the business world full-time. He has founded and led a number of companies ranging from a highly successful Hatteras yacht dealership, to both commercial and residential real estate projects, a property management firm, a charter fishing operation, and spent two years as CEO of an industrial marine company. Dr. Baratta is currently Chairman of the Board of FPIC Insurance Group, Inc., a NASDAQ-traded insurance holding company, and he is a franchisee of Aaron's Sales and Lease Ownership in the Miami area. He has been awarded the Shaler Richardson Award for service to medicine on two separate occasions by the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. He currently sits on the advisory board for the Vanderbilt University Eye Institute.
Scott Baratta, President & Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Baratta has over 13 years of experience in financial analysis, strategic planning and management with both early-stage and Fortune 500 companies. He earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He provides pro forma financial projections and analytical services for clients and supervises the financial information provided to each center. He spent two years as Vice President Medicepts, Inc., a medical device manufacturer. Mr. Baratta also served as a Senior Manager with marchFIRST, an Internet consultancy, and he spent three years as a Manager in financial and strategic planning with the Frito-Lay, Inc. division of PepsiCo.
Charles Immordino, RN, Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations. Mr. Immordino has been active in ambulatory surgery center development and management since 1984. He has served as Administrator of Surgery Center of Stuart since 2001. He spent over 20 years with Martin Memorial Health Systems as Director of Critical Care, Nurse Manager- PACU, and Director of Surgical Services and Director of Ambulatory Surgery. Over the course of his career, he has developed two highly successful startup ASC programs and managed other ongoing surgery centers. He is a graduate of St. Johns University and served as Chief of Professional Services in the United States Army Reserve. Col. Immordino served for over 33 years with the United States Army and Army Reserve.
Mark Rainis, Vice President of Development/Operations. Mr. Rainis earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University. He has a strong background in the financial and services industries and currently oversees new center development along with the regulatory and licensure requirements for clients. He has experience in operational and financial development of new Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Mr. Rainis also continues to assist in the day to day management of existing ASCs, along with monthly operational and financial analysis for client centers.
Linda Bedwell, RN, BSN, Central Florida Regional Administrator.
Linda's main focus for Ascent is overseeing operational issues at many of our centers throughout Florida. With over 25 years in the field Linda has experience in all aspects of the ambulatory surgery center market. From development and licensing to day to day business office and clinical operations,her vast experience has greatly improved performance while at the same time controlling costs.
Heather Friedman, Accounting Manager. Ms. Friedman recently earned her MBA in accounting and brings over 5 years of strong accounting experience to Ascent. She has worked for various public companies such as Bacardi, Miller Lite and Time Warner Cable. Her specialization in accounting includes Sarbanes-Oxley regulation, Human Resources and Customer Relationship Management.

Andy Rivero, New Business Development. Mr. Rivero uses his experience as an independent sales representative for eye care products in Florida for over 20 years to identify and coordinate new ASC development projects.
Philip Sprinkle, Legal Advisor. Mr. Sprinkle is a board-certified health care attorney with Balch & Bingham, P.C. with offices in Birmingham, Alabama; Atlanta, Georgia and Richmond, Virginia. He provides invaluable legal advice to our clients on a wide range of legal issues.
